Comme je suis très manuelle, avant c'était le crochet, le tricot, la broderie et à présent ce sont les perles qui captivent toute mon attention. Un travail manuel, très minutieux qui veille au petit détail et des bijoux uniques de créateur.

De formation initiale en comptabilité, j'adore créer de belles choses et je l'ai toujours fait en parallèle de ma profession initiale. Here is Cate, she is addicted to metal.

"Before I moved to Atlanta, I was a volunteer firefighter and search and rescue specialist. I had a real reason to spent hours hiking in the woods training with my K9. I love the woods and nature. Thanks to a deeply ingrained gallows humor, I really like the occasional odd or dark thing.

After moving to Atlanta, I found myself with lots of free time and discovered a wonderful studio near my house that would let me fill in the gap of the tools and knowledge I do not yet have. I tend to work a little every night in my own studio (spare bedroom) and go buy an hour or two at the local studio every so often.

I love metalwork, and really love copper. It is so warm and yielding. I love the concept of being about to paint it with flames (yes, I know the scientific reason it reacts, but it's so much cooler to say flame painting!) and I love combining it with other materials like sterling and steel.

I still have a day job--database administrator--and metalsmithing is my escape back from the empty world of data. I sometimes drive myself crazy by thinking about the fact that what I do all day is manipulate stuff that doesn't exist. Think about it. All the data out there is simply little on and off charges on a metal platter. I think I feel a need to do something *real* and that's what drives me to the very real and tactile world of metalsmithing."

"Yes, I am a geek. My favorite TV show is Big Bang Theory and my favorite game is Warcraft, in which I am a miner and get to smelt metal while fighting evildoers.

Judy Richards resides in Portland, Oregon where it rains this time of year. A well kept secret is that it doesn't rain all year around.

Judy is a member of the Portland Bead Society, the ORBS (Oregon Regional Beadmakers Society) and the ISGB (International Society of Glass Beadmakers).

Judy makes lampwork beads and designs jewelry - unique and hopefully artful jewelry. She is always striving for new ideas, new shapes in glass.

Judy is inspired by nature (flowers, birds) depicted in glass. She loves abstract lampwork most of all with layers of glass and complexity. She is always striving to that goal.

She has done the work of reasonably exact glass beads - but yearns to break out of that toward something more complex and deep in an artistic sense. She also has a sense of humor and doesn't take herself too seriously - she is the owner of 2 cats, hence the cat beads. Judy likes to laugh and make others smile with her work.

Judy's dream buyer is the Sundance catalog.

Probably the best things she has made are jewelry with her own lampwork beads and semi precious stones that have sold thare are really pushing the envelope of what we think of as jewelry and adornment.

Kirsten, is a newcomer to the scene who is enjoying quite a success already.

- How did you get started ?
I started selling pocket stones a few years ago on my own website, but it didn't go over too well. Last February I went to a flea market with a friend and picked up some stone beads. I started putting them on cords and it was all downhill from there! I set up my Etsy store in March.

- Where are you from?
Northern California, born and bred.

- Are your creations limited editions or unique?
I never re-make something unless someone specifically requests it. So in theory, yes, they are all one of a kind pieces. If you're crushed that something sold and you really wanted it, I'll do my best to make it again for you!

- How long have you been doing it?
I learned how to macrame when I was 11 years old, but never did it beyond that learning process. I randomly recalled how to do it this May, and have been expanding the idea ever since. Earrings are just all random as well. A friend of mine showed me how to loop a headpin properly, and the rest is me guessing.

- Are you a professional artist or is this a hobby?
Can I be a professional hobbiest? Or an artistic lallygagger? I would like this to be a profession, but I am just starting out!

- What inspires you?
Colors, shapes, seasons, music. Ideas for what to make slam into my head and demand to become physical.

- What is your favorite piece and why?
I've tried answering this before, and I really don't know. If I make something that strikes my soul (or whatever, that sounds so dramatic!) I will keep it for myself!

- How do you promote your work?
Many many online communities. I also make things for my family and friends and give them a good deal as long as they promise to hand my card to anyone who even seems remotely interested!

- Where are you showing your work?
Just online currently. I recently featured my work at a jewelry party and it was quite a success!

- What is your favorite material?
Kyanite. I am madly madly in love with kyanite! There is something about that stone that just resonates with me.

- What advice you wish someone had told you when you started?
Don't put everything up on your website at once! Practice your technique before offering it for sale. You WILL get better, and your old stuff WILL be very embarrassing!

- Do you have any advice for fellow artists?
Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Etsy is easy to list on, yes, but your items will always look more impressive in person!

"I was born and partially raised in NB Canada, I fell in love at the tender age of eight when as a christmas gift my grandparents gave me a large beading kit from then on I was always making some form of jewelry or another.

She has been creating jewellery since early 2004, and it quickly became a passion which helped fill the time while caring for her mum who has MS.

Jewellery then lead Anne to the wonderful world of lampwork beads, as you can see on this image.
Yet another way to play with colours. It's such a thrill to play with molten glass watching it flow and form beautiful objects.

new bracelets and necklaces

I always have a funky and cheerful range for the summer of little items easy to combine together. They look great alone or in groups of 2-3 up to 25 (why not?).
Last few years, I used to make them with pearls and rose quartz. This year, in ddition to teeh necklaces, I have added bracelets and also new gemstones: jade (green, sand, pink), turquoise (blue and green), coral...
Should be fun. There are also a few with silver beads.
