HOW TO MAKE A PHOTO BOX
This should help you take good photos of jewelry and other small objects on a budget by making your own light box from a recycled card box
easy to construct and use!
ITEMS YOU NEED
12x12x12 box
14 x 10 piece of plexy glass or glass
a knife
background paper (scrapbooking paper is great from craft store)
wax paper
60-100 watt light
How to put it all together:
1) Take your 12x12x12 box and cut out one side. Keep the bottom of
your box intact.
2) (open side you just cut out) Measure 9 inches from the bottom and
make a slit all the way to the back of the box on both sides. Do not
cut the back of the box.
3) Slide your glass into the slits of the box
4) Take the wax paper and tape it over the light source. The
wax paper is used to defuse the light.
5) Aim the light towards the opening of your box.
6) Lay your background on the bottom of your box as your background.
7) Shine your light into to open area of the box. Take your photos from the
back of the box... with the light facing you.
Your camera should focus on the jewelry or small object, use your macro setting if your camera gas one.
The background will become fuzzy due to the distance of the background from
the object.

March - Bloodstone
April - Diamond
May - Emerald
June - Moonstone
July - Ruby
August - Sardonyx
September - Sapphire
October - Tourmaline

Hospice boosted by jewellery sale cash
Hospice boosted by jewellery sale cash - Source Hereford Times
7:30pm Wednesday 3rd December 2008
MORE than £300 was raised in aid of charity at a jewellery sale in Hereford last week.
Emma Plunkett, who has an imported jewellery business in London, brought a selection of Indian jewellery to Sybella Kirkbride’s house in Bishopstone to raise money for St Michael’s Hospice.
Emma and Sybella spent nearly a year in India before they went to university and it inspired her to set up her business.
“It was just brilliant that Sybella and Emma wanted to support St Michael’s in this way,” said Helen Cotterell, fundraising consultant for St Michael’s.
“Emma has a lot of dealings with a hospice in India and she was just so happy to also support our local hospice with her sale.”

October Birthstones - Opal and Tourmaline
October has been associated with 3 gemstones: Opal, Jasper and Tourmaline.
while the gemstones associated with the zodiac are for
Libra (September 23-October 23) : Opal and smokey quartz
for Scorpio (October 24-November 22) : Topaz and Malachite
I have chosen to introduce you to Opal and Tourmaline.
Opal: Derived from the Latin "Opalus" , which means "Precious stone"
Opal was thought to protect the wearer from disease and to possess the gift of prophecy
They are found mainly in Australia, Mexico and the U.S.A
It is believed that they convey hope, innocence and purity. The Traditional Metaphysical Properties for the October Birthstone Opal are happiness, faithfulness, loyalty and confidence. The healing properties are reputed to be effective for health problems relating to the eyes and eye infections. The Opal is also used to enhance visualization, imagination, dreams and healing.
Tourmalines exist naturally in a myriad of colors: yellow, green, blue, pink, red, brown, black. Some even have bi-colored properties. A valued bi-colored variety of tourmaline, found in Brazil, is called the "watermelon."
Watermelon Tourmaline is a unique stone. It balances the yin and yang in the body. Wearing a slice of watermelon tourmaline will allow you to understand matters in a more balanced way. Watermelon tourmaline draws joyful and understanding love to you. Meditate with a slice of watermelon between your hands and understanding of the beauty of the universe may come to you. Watermelon tourmaline is reddish-pink encircled by green

Pennydog: handmade costume jewellery made from resin
Who are you and where do you come from?
I'm Kerry and I'm originally from East Yorkshire, but I have been living in
Leicestershire for over 4 years now, when I moved to go to university. I
live with my boyfriend of 5 years and our greyhound, Penny, whom my business
is named after.
Please tell us a little about what you make.
I make jewellery with resin, some unique, some replicable, but all with an
aim to appeal to a wide range of people, rather than a lot of resin
jewellery that you can buy that looks cheap and tacky. I also dabble a
little in photography, but haven't had time to indulge since graduating from
my course.
What do you enjoy making most?
I like making the ice range, it's simple to do and requires no sanding!
What are your main inspirations?
I take inspiration with anything I find. This time of year is great- I pick
up colourful leaves, acorns, feathers, seeds, all sorts really. I love the
colours and details in vintage and retro style fabrics too, I can't resist
them and use them in my retro range.
What are you currently making?
Loads! I have some swirled colour bangles, some earrings with feathers in,
some candy corn pieces for an online contact, some sycamore seed and pretty
leaf pieces all to sand, my entry into the Etsy UK September challenge to
finish and a bit of polishing to do too! I also need to photograph a
tutorial for an article I have written for Crafts Beautiful Magazine.
Can you make custom orders?
Definitely. I have just agreed to make a necklace for a lady who wants me to
use a dried mushroom specimen in a similar way to my nature range.
Where can we buy your work?
At the moment and until 13th October, my work is for sale at Plush Jewellery in Chichester, and more stockists are to follow shortly.
